Honeybee

Happy April, Honeybees! 🍯

The countdown to summer begins! The babies are as sweet as honey and as busy as bees. We have lots of reminders and announcements for the upcoming months so stay tuned! 😎🍉

Warmer weather is upon us so let's do our best to prepare to safely enjoy it. The best summer is the safest summer!

If you would like your child to use items like sunscreen or bug spray, please remember to apply before drop-off OR you can sign a topical consent form for us to apply at school. These forms can be picked up at the front desk.

Additionally, we will be sending home any winter clothes to swap for any warmer weather clothes.

As another reminder, please remember to label all items (listed below) with your child's first and last name! This is not only school policy, but a state regulation as well. Permanent marker or name stickers work just fine. If we notice any no-name items, we will label them with sharpies. 😄

  • clothes/shoes

  • food containers

  • bottles/pacifiers

  • lunch bag/wet bag

  • blankets/sheets

Upcoming Events:

May 1-5 - Teacher Appreciation Week

May 5 - Half Day (all/all in session)

May 24 - Half day for ALL students

May 26-30 - School closed, teacher in-service

May 31 - First day of Summer

Butterfly

Hello Everyone!

Second semester always flies by, for me. We have had so many activities and gatherings that it makes the year soar. Coming up- Summer! Summer heat means mosquitoes. Be sure to spray repellent and sun block on your child before school. We can have one here at school as a spare, if needed. Please sign those ointments and sprays at the office before sending them inside lunch boxes/ bags.

Now that the shorts are also coming out, again, please label all clothing. Simple initials on the tags is enough, I promise. But if you’d like to buy labels, feel welcome to. Etsy and Oliver’s labels have a great selection and there are also personalized stamps! Make sure to find some waterproof ones too to make them last a while.

Warmly,

Ms. Rebeca & Ms. Yohanna

Hummingbird

Hello Hummingbird familia,

We are in the full swing of Spring! With the new season also comes a few changes in our environment. As you may be aware, Ms. Becky has decided to stay home to continue nurturing her new baby, and family. Ms. Kat will also be out of the classroom April-July to finish her A to I training. Once she returns she will be stepping up as the lead guide for next school year. In the meantime, Ms. Shelby will be working as the temporary guide. She has been working in Montessori settings for 5 years and attended the same training that Ms. Kat is finishing up now! Shelby is 30 and an Arizona native. She is married, and has 1 son who attends the Elementary program here at Creo! Please reach out to her anytime with your thoughts, questions or concerns at Shelby@creoschool.org

This month in Hummingbird we’ve focused on the children’s sensitive periods! The Sensitive Periods are; Socialization, language, order, movement, external order, internal order, refinement of the senses, and attention to small details/objects.

These periods internally guide the child during their first 6 years of life to absorb and embody the traits and characteristics of the human being. Every single child, no matter where they are born, will experience these sensitive periods. They are time limited so we like to think of them as windows of opportunity. Its important to keep in mind that these sensitive periods may also overlap, which means a child can be experiencing more than one sensitive period at a time.

“It comes for a moment but its benefits last for a lifetime."

-Maria Montessori

How can we recognize when a sensitive period is occurring?

  • Observing- Through observation you are able to recognize when a child suddenly has a specific interest in an aspect within the environment.

  • Repetition- When you have a child that is going back and forth or repeating the same movements/sequences over and over, there is an important reason for that! They are developing something!

  • Concentration- The child is able to avoid being distracted while immersed in their materials. He or she is not aware of what is happening around them.

Thank you for the support and oppertunity to work with these great developing minds. I look forward to continue getting to know and learn more about each unique child in the next couple of months.

Ms. Shelby and Ms. Daisy

Squirrel

Hola Familia de Squirrels,

This month of April was yet another busy month in the Squirrel environment, it was so great to meet with you all for conferences, the Creo Carnival was so much fun, and we continue to support and observe the children to best support their individual developmental needs.  As part of our role in the environment as Montessori guide, we can best support the children by providing the freedom to explore their environment. Which can be a bit of a misconception.

We allow the child to explore their environment within the boundaries the environment sets. Every child needs to learn through their own experiences and natural consequences just how we all learn in life. There are clear set boundaries we establish such as you may not hurt yourself, others, or the environment. As the child gains more independence, he gains more confidence which comes from having freedom of choice. As you give freedom you must always follow it with limits, or the child will act in response to not knowing what to do because they have too much freedom.

“Limits can be compared to the railroads, without rails the train can’t go from one point to the other, the rails keep the train from derailing.” Silvia Singh

As adults we need to remember to implement the limits in the moment. The child at this age lives in the present and will not remember or care about what they did. It is important to offer realistic choices to the child, and we may not offer something we do not have.

There have been quite a few parents to reach our for-lunch ideas, so I will be sharing a few pictures of lunch meals we have had. My suggestion is to bring healthy food, you know your child enjoys eating and try new foods at home, so you are aware of the outcome. We encourage easy to open containers as the children open their own lunchboxes and containers to serve their own food. We also have a microwave available for the children to use.

Seeing all the yummy lunches makes me hungry!

Thank you for your support and trust!

Ms. Nadia & Ms. Alexis
