September 2024
Honeybee
Happy September familia! As the warm colors of autumn begin to surround us, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the importance of fostering independence.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that every child has an innate desire to learn and explore their environment. By providing this prepared environment tailored to their developmental needs, we can encourage infants to practice this independence!
As Dr. Montessori observed, “The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.’” By embracing this philosophy, we not only nurture independence in your children but also instill a love for learning that will serve them throughout their lives. This autumn, we are striving to create environments that celebrate the independence and potential of our youngest learners.
Thank you for your continued support for our classroom! We look forward to the rest of the school year with our Honeybee familia!
Please reach out to Susan@creoschool.org or Nido@creoschool.org for any questions or comments.
With love,
The Honeybee Team 💌

Butterfly
Hello all,
Thank you for all those who joined us this last parent meeting and shared their thoughts and ideas on the topic. This month’s topic was about Toilet Learning. IF you have were unable to come but would like more information concerning the subject, please reach out if you are interested in making the switch to underwear for your child or see readiness, I’d love to hear your feedback! This topic has many sections and we will go through them more thoroughly throughout the year. I am attaching the meeting notes as a PDF link in case you lost your notes.
I promise Toilet learning might sound a bit more challenging than it is but we are here to help! We are hoping to get more kiddos in underwear by the end of the semester so watch for that email 😉
September just flew on by, it was truly a great month with everyone settling into our daily routine and ready to learn how to use the materials in the classroom and our second-year students never hesitate to help out our newest peers. We have welcomed the Fall season with open arms this year, the children are so happy being outside once again in outdoor environment and on the playground. We are still seeing a lot of mosquitos so spray on some repellent before sending your child to school or send some repellent with them. All prescribed and topical medications, ointments, lotions, etc. do need to be checked into the office though, if you would like us to give it to them throughout the school day.
A kind reminder to please make lunches as easy to open as you can make them. The children take an awful long time if they are struggling and sometimes, while helping the newest children open their containers (or helping heat up lunches, taking someone to the restroom, etc. etc.), they have to wait for us to go and help them which takes away time from their lunch period. The children also get frustrated that they need help in that moment. We want them to be as independent and successful as possible without having to rely on the adult. Thank you for your immediate support to this matter.
Warmly,
Ms. Rebeca & Ms. Daisy

Hummingbird
Dear Hummingbird Families,
September has flown by, and the children have come so far since the start of the school year. We have seen so much growth in everyone and have cherished strengthening our friendships very much. We practiced the Peace Day songs in both Spanish and English every day in preparation for the celebration in the gym, and it was so wonderful to see them share this tradition with the whole school.
This month, the children have been very excited about getting to work outside with our Outdoor Environment teachers, Ms. Georgia and Ms. Tori. Thankfully the temperature has dropped under 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so we have been spending our recess on the playground. The children have been able to practice using tricycles, the slides, the sandbox, and running in the grass. Most of all the children enjoy being in the fresh air, listening to the sounds of nature, and playing with all the toddlers from all three classrooms.
Also, we appreciate the time you took to come to the community meeting, it’s always great to share some time with our Hummingbird parents while also sharing some helpful information. Teachers and parents are all here to support one another, so please feel free to lean on one another and reach out if you're seeking clarity or assistance with your child.
We hope you have safe travels and enjoy family time during fall break. Once we return, we will be starting up fall conferences that will be held in the afternoon after school. The fall conferences are a great time to ask more detailed questions, share any concerns, and get more information regarding your child’s development. Be on the lookout for details to sign up.
Best Wishes,
Ms. Kat and Ms. Dafne

Squirrel
Hello Squirrel families, Autumn is here, and we are so excited for the cooler weather to be able to spend more time outside!
I wanted to thank everyone who came to our community meeting. It is always a pleasure to share stories and Montessori information that can help at home and your child’s development. Our focus was on how to offer opportunities at home for your child to be independent.
Our environment is set up to offer multiple tasks in which the children are independent. They begin by taking their lunchbox to the shelf and taking their wet bag to the restroom to then place their clothes in their corresponding basket. You can offer this task at home as well where they can place their shoes where they belong or simply take their lunch box inside to the kitchen!
As I mentioned we almost have the entire class in underwear, in which we are focusing on independence in dressing and undressing. To support this, I encourage you to not provide snug or tight fit, try a loose option such as stretchy waistband and a bigger size shirts. This allows your child to have a more comfortable fit when they are trying to find the corresponding holes and it is easier to pull their bottoms up!
As cooler days approach, please remember to label sweaters/jackets and they must also follow school uniform policy. Now is the perfect time to practice the “Montessori Jacket flip” to prepare them to be successful when they wear them every day!
