Honeybee

Hello wonderful Nido families! 🐝🍁
The rain has been such an experience for our babies this month! We had the door cracked open and they got to feel the cool breeze and hear the sound of the rain and thunder. As part of our Montessori philosophy we try to expose the children to as much sensorial experiences and mother nature gifted us rain and cloudy skies. Our babies have been busy learning how to rollover, crawl and pulling up to stand everyday is a new day of new milestones.

During the first year of life, babies move through several gentle “sensitive periods” that guide their learning. You’ll see your child drawn to movement, sounds and language, routine and order, and rich sensory experiences. These natural drives help them build coordination, feel secure, and make sense of their world. In Nido, we support these moments by offering a calm environment, simple materials, and consistent routines that honor their pace and curiosity!

As Holidays approach make sure to keep us posted if your children will be out to prepare for our day. I have included a short glimpse of our upcoming events !

Butterfly

Hello Butterfly families!

This month has been full of energy, growth, and so many sweet moments in our classroom. The toddlers have been hard at work exploring new materials, building routines, and developing more confidence in their independence each day. It’s amazing to watch how much they’ve grown already!

Circle time has been a big hit lately — the children absolutely light up when we sing together. They’ve especially enjoyed the songs we rotate in both English and Spanish. I’ll be adding a few YouTube links to some of their favorites so you can keep the music going at home and sing along with your little ones.

We also have some exciting transitions coming up. Over the next couple of months, Apollo, Logan, and Olivia will be moving to Children’s House. We have truly loved watching them grow, learn, and blossom in Butterfly. Their bright personalities have added so much to our classroom, and we’re going to miss them dearly — but we’re also so proud of them and excited for their next steps.

With the cooler weather settling in, those seasonal colds are starting to make their way around. Thank you for helping us keep everyone healthy by keeping your little ones home when they’re under the weather. We appreciate your support more than you know.

Wishing all our families a cozy, joyful holiday filled with good food, warm memories, and lots of love. We’re so grateful for each of you! 🧡

Hummingbird

Dear Hummingbird familia,

We all have a tendency for socialization, which is a strong desire to interact with others. Each one of us is born with the potential to learn manners and behaviors that are appropriate for the culture in which we participate, which we call “grace and courtesy” in the Montessori world. This is a sensitive period during the toddler's development, in which they learn about their world by observingand absorbing social norms. The child observes all social rules, greetings, manners at the table, etc.

To have the ability to socialize, the child needs adults to interact with them. The adult can help to satisfy this sensitive period in the child by modeling grace and courtesy. When the children are exposed to social gatherings, they can identify how others act with one another, and without those interactions, the children will not have the chance to develop grace and courtesy. For example, many babies that were raised during the covid times may not know the ways to interact or how to share spaces with others because they may have lived in isolation for the majority of their early development.

In the last few months, we have had many opportunities to practice grace and courtesy towards one another. In the classroom, we practice patience when the child is learning to wait for materials and take their turn. The children practice courtesy by learning to clean up the materials so that it is ready for other students to use. We practice caring for others by responding to calls for help, which some of the older students enjoy. The older children who can open containers or guide younger ones get excited to help others, which is amazing and heartwarming to be part of. During these times, the children gain the opportunity to learn the social rules within the environment.

We follow 3 golden rules which include: one may not hurt themselves, one may not hurt others, and one may not hurt the environment. During this period of socialization, the child should not be forced to say please, thank you, excuse me, and I’m sorry because the child will acquire this skill by the adult simply modeling. The child needs to internalize the meaning of those words for them to be manifested. The adult needs to have a good relationship with children and other adults in the environment to aid in modeling grace and courtesy.

Each day, we strive to help the children move closer to building their independence by giving them the time and space they need to attempt and practice the hard work in class. We guide other children in redirecting them to work that interests them and model how we respectfully observe others working. These experiences have made our friendships stronger and closer as we support them through their ever-changing needs. We hope to see everyone at our social in December so we can get some time to relax and share some quality time before the long winter break. More details to come!

Thank you for all your support,

Ms. Kat and Ms. Lenni

Squirrel

Hello families,

This month of November we have been busy! We have been getting back into the routine with parent observation coming to an end. During the work cycle our kids have been focusing on care of the environment. Many times, through of the day we hear phrases like: “I can help you”! When friends ask us teachers for help, our older friends take the initiative to help their friends before we make it to them! We have loved to wash the tables, dishes, towels etc.!

In Montessori, one of the back bones is foster that independence within the child.  There are many ways to help the child help themselves.

One great way to start is having the child pick what outfit they want to wear in the morning. Right before bed, have a bin that holds two pants, two shirts, two socks, and two underwear or a diaper. This way, once the child wakes up for the day, they can choose which outfit they would like to wear. This simple activity allows the child to gain new confidence within themselves and have a sense of control to start the day! Having few options helps the child focus on the task and do it to completion.

Another way to foster independence is when eating, have the child sit in a chair with no buckle or a tray that keeps them sitting. Here at school, we have a normal chair and a table that allows the child to get up and move on to the next activity when they are ready. This would be a great thing to do while eating a snack! Please sit with them and eat that same snack, Modeling how we sit at the table and once we are finished, take care of the environment and place your things away!

We have many new friends who language has bloomed in class and it’s so exciting during circle time to hear all that is happening in their lives after school!

Also, I want to welcome our two new students! Luis and Blakley! They have been such a joy getting to know at school and they have been getting a warm welcome in class!

I wish you a well-received break for the upcoming days November 26-28!
Thank you for all that you do.

With great thanks,

Ms. Morgan and Ms. Alina
