Honeybee

Welcome to the new school year, Honeybee families! 🐝

We are so excited to say that this August has been off to a great start. As we bid farewell to the summer season, we are eager to celebrate the beginning of the new school year. We’ve welcomed a few new faces and they have been so curious about their new spaces. Luckily, our older friends have been tons of help navigating school. We are as busy as bees with our full classroom! Be sure to give a warm welcome to any new Honeybees that you might see around. Our community is something we cherish and to see it grow is such a gift! 💛

This month, we've been easing into our individual routines to ensure that everyone feels comfortable in our space. Our classroom’s success is dependent upon the connection between the child, the guide, and the environment. Our environments are curated with your child’s development in mind. As guides, following the child’s lead and doing our best to meet their needs is at the top of our priority list! By doing this, we encourage the children to feel comfortable exploring their capabilities. This is the foundation for a successful school year!

“The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn.” - Dr. Maria Montessori

Please remember to label all items with your child’s first and last name to ensure that everything goes home with the right person. This includes bedding, food containers, and clothing. Thank you!

Butterfly

Happy August, Butterfly Familia! 🦋

I wanted to start off by saying thank you for your trust as I stepped into the classroom to cover Mrs. Rebeca as the Interim Lead while she is out on maternity leave, we are wishing her a warm welcome to her and her daughter Zara at home.

It has been great to get to know your children one-on-one. The month of August, we've been focusing on being gentle with our friends. It is not development appropriate for a toddler to understand the concept of sharing. This is why in Montessori we encourage their patience and waiting for their turn as we have ONE material of each on the shelf. When a child is busy using a material we let the other child know they need to wait for the other child to be done.

As we know it is quite difficult for child to wait and they use their body to express themselves. We remind them to use their words and be gentle with their body to express themselves to their friends.

A few phrase we use:

  • Please wait your friend is using it right now, you have to wait until it’s available.

  • Please use your words

  • Keep your hands and feet to your own body

“The hand is the instrument of intelligence. The child needs to manipulate objects to gain experience by touching and handling.”

Another reminder, please remember to label all items with your child’s name. This is not only school policy, but state regulation as well. Permanent marker or name stickers will work. 🙂

Here’s what’s cookin’ in class! If you’d like to make it at home with them, it’s an easy baking project together.

Cream Drop Biscuits

  • ¾ Cup of flour

  • ½ Tbs of Baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • ⅔ Cup heavy cream

 Warmly,

Ms. Bri & Ms. Daisy

Hummingbird

Happy start of the school year!

We want to give a warm welcome to our new and returning Hummingbird Families! We are off to a great start this school year. The beginning of the school year is always a great time to guide the children through grace and courtesy lessons. We demonstrate how we walk around the classroom and the ways we treat one another with respect and kindness.

The children experience life through their work in the classroom while at the same time creating friendships with each other. The children have been eager to work with the food prep this month. For example, cherry pitting, egg peeling and slicing, banana slicing, and baking biscuits. The food that the children prepare each day is included in snack and shared during lunchtime.

In preparation for Peace Day on September 20th, we have been practicing the song “Peace Like a River”, and in Spanish “Paz Como un Rio”. We look forward to singing our songs with the rest of the school and sharing this time together. Please remember to have your child come in their Peace Day shirts or wear a plain white T-shirt.

Warm wishes,

Mrs. Kat and Ms. Claudia

Squirrel

Feliz primer mes del año escolar!

I am so happy to go back into our school year routine and get to meet the newest members of our Squirrel Community. Friendly reminder to please label all belongings with FIRST & LAST name. We have been so busy showing our new friends the routine and making sure they feel safe and cared for. The children have been checking on their new friends and trying to socialize and remind them that they will go home soon. 💕

This month we have focused on self-serving their food and water. This allows them to develop their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. The more they practice pouring their milk or water in their cup the more they make connections to be able to do it soon without spilling! We have them serve their lunch out of their containers onto their plate, as well as serve their snack in the morning.

We will have a Community Meeting in September with more information about food preparation, lunch ideas and ways to support your child in a Montessori way through food. Keep an eye out for the exact date and time!

Thank you for all your trust in us and collaborating with your child at home, as this will inspire their will for independence.

This month we enjoyed our Cream Drop Biscuits for baking and banana slicing for food preparation.
