Peek Inside Lower Elementary
BLACK BEAR
September has come and gone. The children have been busy taking good care of their community and their environment and receiving and practicing lessons in all areas! It is so awe-inspiring to witness the children self-constructing and building their community.
Ms. Carmen has been doing a lot of handwork and cooking with the children, which is a great opportunity to include Spanish conversations and vocabulary. She also plays the traditional game of “Lotería!” (similar to Bingo) with small groups, which is also a great time to practice vocabulary and conversation.
Among the many lessons given, we have been delving into our Biology studies, dissecting flowers and seeds, watching plants grow from a seed and understanding the functions of the plant and all of its parts. This experience increases the knowledge of the children but most importantly brings a sense of gratitude and respect!
As the weather continues to become more outdoor friendly, Ms. Lucy is beginning to work in our gardens with small groups, bringing the joy and calming effects of gardening.
We are grateful always for your support and your dedication to the Montessori approach to learning at Creō.
Best,
Ms. Rebeca and Ms. Carmen

COYOTE
Happy Fall Break Coyote Parents and Family!
This month has been a whirlwind of hard work and lessons learned!
The children are getting back into the rhythm of the work cycle and have been keeping very busy. We have had a lot of presentations as the children are finishing research, projects and just sharing personal items about themselves. Together we have been practicing and revisiting materials as well as starting to memorize math facts, beautify work with their cursive and take the time to silent read.
This month, we celebrated Peace Day together. We enjoyed watching the other Elementary songs, dances, puppet shows and presentations. The children in Coyote enjoyed sharing their short play, artwork, and comics about various peace leaders.
Together we learned a poem as a group, and it goes like this…
Don’t worry if your job is small,
And your rewards are few,
Remember that the mighty Oak,
Was once a nut like you.
Sincerely,
Coyote Teachers

FALCON
September was a month filled with celebrations!
We joined the whole school in observance of the International Day of Peace. The gathering was MC’d by two of the Falcon students. Among the several presentations that elementary students shared with each other, a group of children from our classroom presented a puppet show in Spanish about the meaning of peace. With Ms. Carla’s guidance, they wrote the script, made the puppets, and a box theater to perform the play using different voices for each character. Another child wrote a beautiful essay about peace and read it aloud to her peers.
On September 15, a couple of children did a presentation about Mexico’s Independence Day. They made sopes, a traditional Mexican dish, to share with the class. Everyone enjoyed receiving new cultural knowledge and tasting the sopes.
Many children presented research projects that they had been working on since the beginning of the year. Some of the topics were Space, Unusual Cars, The Snowy Owl, Beastology, and Paris, France.
As always, the children continue choosing work in all areas of study, planning going outs, spending time at the library, and practicing being gracious and courteous. While further developing their will.
We are excited for October when we will have presentations about Dia de los Muertos and Halloween (note: at the school, we don’t celebrate Halloween; however, many children are curious about the history and origins of it, as it is something that is culturally celebrated by many in the United States).
Wishing you a lovely Fall Break!
-Team Falcon

ROADRUNNER
Dear Roadrunner families,
The children have continued to work hard this month as they receive many lessons in the usual academic areas of math, language, history, and the sciences. There have also been a variety of other lessons that have taken place by means of experiences and discussions. Such as the opportunity the children had to metaphorically lift each other with words of kindness and positive experiences as we created a web with a large climbing rope as they added compliments and shared fun memories. We collectively have taken intentional moments of pause and are practicing mindfulness as we observe the wonders of the world around us. There have been many research projects that have taken place and some presentations have even been postponed as the children discover there is much more to explore.
Sugary Sweets Bakery had their second bake sale September 17, and even though they changed their menu and expanded their quantity, they still sold out in under thirty minutes! Thank you to all those who came out to support their cause to raise money for charities. Creō Fitness has made some alterations to their schedule but continues to provide fun and safe physical activity for both the Lower and Upper Elementary classes.
We look forward to the many experiences we will share this coming year.
-Ms. Lauren and Ms. Juany
