It was such a joy to celebrate Lexi's 5th birthday with her and her Mom! The special hummus and cucumber snack was also a favorite. Happy Birthday, Lexi!!
We would like to welcome Jada into the Gray Fox Children's House! We are so happy you're here! The children have been very welcoming and helpful to Jada's acclimation.
The children have truly enjoyed and benefited from spending time with our Student Teacher, Ms. Rebecca! We are sad to see her go, it was a wonderful experience for all.
"If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere." Van Gogh
Nature continues to be a topic of interest for the Gray Fox children. They remain mindful of the indoor and outdoor plants. Flowers, seeds, leaves, poems, photos of your home garden spaces and books about nature would make excellent show and shares. Dr. Montessori looked deeply into the love children expressed in the natural world. We can witness this powerful love by noticing the way a child engages with the environment in an intense, observant and meticulous way. The novelty of the natural world intrigues the child; he is inspired and comforted by its beauty and graciousness. The child will embrace nature with an open heart and mind, eager to learn all of its intricacies. Dr. Montessori described this intense love of the environment within each child "the secret of all man's progress and the secret of social evolution" (Education and Peace).
Montessori says that children are here to remind us and renew our perception of this organic appreciation. They are here to remind us that "There is another life, that you have forgotten. Learn to live better." (Secret of Childhood).
This season, we can describe the history and roots of the natural world with the children, listen to their reflective observations, poetic realizations and encourage this love of nature. As adults we must take the time to explain and appreciate new life. We can go on nature walks with the child and talk about the names of the trees and flowers. The child won't remember their best day of television. Discovering the universe and her place in nature is part of the child's creative process.
"The whole labor of life, which fulfills itself subject to its laws and brings beings into harmony, reaches consciousness under the form of LOVE… [The child's] self-realization comes about in him through love." -Dr. Maria Montessori, The Secret of Childhood.
With appreciation for your support, dedication and passion for Montessori,
Miss Lauren and Ms. Yadira
